Environmental Initiatives at Hazelgrove Self Catering cottage,
Loch Ness

Environmental Commitment

We are conscious that the actions of each and every one of us have an impact on the environment. At Hazelgrove, we are committed to providing an excellent quality of service for our guests whilst also minimising the environmental impact of our business activities. By doing so we hope (albeit in a small way) to help maintain the wild beauty of Loch Ness for the enjoyment of visitors and local people alike.

A symbol of our commitment is our membership of the  Green Tourism Business Scheme. Under this scheme we have achieved a Gold Award, the highest grading of which we are justifiably proud.

At Hazelgrove we aim to:-

Adhere to good environmental practise in all business activities
Ensure that the business meets the minimum requirements set by environmental law and fulfil its legal duty of care requirements for waste disposal
Aim to achieve sustainable environmental improvement

To achieve this, we have implemented a variety of general measures as follows:-

Use of household cleaning products which do not harm the environment
Use of environmentally soaps and detergents for laundering bed linen and towels
Ensuring that efficient use of energy is undertaken within the business by purchasing "A" energy rated appliances
Purchasing of a range of recycled goods
Recycling a variety of household products
Providing a natural habitat which encourages wildlife
Promoting a no smoking environment (from 2008) for the benefit of our guests

Reduced flush toilets to save water

Double glazed windows to improve thermal performance

Use the eco saving facility on the dishwasher to reduce water use

Re-use furniture and bed linens by donating to local charities

Installation of low energy bulbs throughout the property

Here are some examples of the actions we can all take to help the environment:

Recycling of paper, cardboard, glass, cans and food waste

Recycling of toner cartridges

Monitoring of oil and electricity consumption

Bulk purchase of cleaning materials

Use of Fairtrade products in the hospitality tray

Purchase of recycled goods

Confirmation of all bookings by e mail thus reducing paper use

Local Support

We support our local environment, services and suppliers through the following actions:

Provide information on walks and wildlife for guests

Offer guided walks and car tours

Provide local transport information to guests

Provide cycle hire and route information
