places of interest. The Younger Botanic Gardens are at Benmore outside

beautiful! Also on Bute is Mount Stuart House, home of the Marquis of Bute
or visit historic Rothesay Castle.
If you would like to try your hand at sailing or windsurfing, Tighnabruaich
Sailing School caters for all ages and abilities. If you like to walk,
Puck’s Glen just outside Dunoon offers an enchanting woodland walk, or if
you are a more serious walker, the Cowal Way is a new long distance footpath
which was opened in 2003. If you are a climber the Arrocher Alps with the
2891ft Cobbler (Ben Arthur) are less than an hour’s drive away. But if you
want to stay closer to home, the new Community Garden Project in Colintraive
is a lovely area to wander around or to just sit and relax and watch the
players on the Bowling Green. You might like to have a go yourself.
The Colintraive Hotel, 5 minutes walk from
the cottage provide bar meals and a convivial atmosphere. Other eating
places you might like to try are the Creggans Inn at Strachur, the
Glendaruel Hotel or the Royal Hotel, Tighnabruaich. for a special meal the
Loch Fyne Oyster Bar at Carindow, Loch Fyne has an excellent reputation
(although booking is recommended). There is a small shop adjacent to the
Hotel for daily newspapers and general provisions but for a larger choice it
is advisable to stock up in Dunoon or Rothesay. |
